Entry-Level Geotechnical/Civil Engineer - FILLED

Synopsis:

This is an ideal opportunity for a Civil Engineer who is looking to gain valuable geotechnical and foundation design experience and establish a career in the exciting renewable energy industry.

Location:

The primary workplace is in Thornton, Colorado. Candidates have the flexibility to work remotely, provided they can effectively coordinate with MDT/MST time zone schedules. Occasional travel may be necessary for face-to-face client meetings and to conduct on-site visits as project demands dictate.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a geotechnical focus or interest.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in home jurisdiction is preferred. If not, the candidate must have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and must be working to obtain PE licensure.

  • 0-4 years of relevant professional experience in civil, geotechnical, or environmental engineering and consulting, with a good understanding of foundation design for both utility-scale wind farms and solar park projects.

  • Competence or willingness to become more competent in geotechnical and structural analysis/design software.

  • Basic skills in spatial analysis and visualization tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS.

  • Exceptional technical writing and communication skills.

  • Attention to detail, quality, and safety.

  • Readiness and capability to travel as necessary for project demands.

  • Ability to perform field tasks in various weather conditions.

  • A valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.

  • Authorization to work in the United States. We do not offer visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities:

  • Under the mentorship of senior staff, support both field and design-related engineering tasks.

  • Design and execute geotechnical investigation scopes for diverse types of renewable energy projects.

  • Manage drilling and field and laboratory testing scopes and sub-contractors providing data for such scopes, including geotechnical soil borings, installation of piezometer wells, and other field activities.

  • Travel to project sites to observe initial geotechnical activities or during project construction to observe foundation construction and provide QA/QC documentation.

  • Provide design support for foundation and excavation support systems, ground improvement projects, and instrumentation.

  • Engage in diverse projects encompassing utility-scale wind farms and solar parks, with a focus on shallow and deep foundations, soil improvement, earth retention systems, and geotechnical instrumentation.

  • Provide technical construction observation, contribute to geotechnical and structural design processes, and support instrument design and interpretation and technical specifications.

  • Oversee geotechnical site investigations, including soil borings, laboratory testing, and technical management of subcontractors.

  • Coordinate and interpret laboratory tests.

  • Perform engineering analysis and design calculations using software packages such as L-Pile, STAAD, RISA, PLAXIS, PTC Mathcad Prime, MS Excel, and other packages.

  • Prepare technical memos, draft geotechnical investigation reports, and produce and assemble design calculation reports, and construction specifications.

  • Design and revise engineering drawings using AutoCAD.

Work Hours:

This is a full-time position with standard work hours from Monday to Friday. We offer flexible working hours and the possibility of remote work to accommodate the needs of our employees.
