Colorado Chooses Renewables

A report by the American Clean Power Association focused on Colorado contains some fantastic statsitics on renewables in Colorado:

  • As of 2022, thirty-three (33) percent of electricity consumed in Colorado came from renewables (wind + solar). This twice the current (2024) national clean energy electricity share of about 16 percent.

  • As of July 2023, installed clean energy capacity in Colorado stood at about 7GW… that is sufficient to power all homes in Colorado.

  • As of Q4 2022, clean energy accounts for nearly 16,000 jobs in Colorado.

  • As of July 2023, there is nearly 2.3 GW of utility-scale clean energy capacity under development, nearly 2 GW of which in solar. This is no surprise as Colorado is the true “sunshine state” enjoying an average 300 sunny days per year which is more than Miami, Florida or San Diego, California.

  • Currently, clean energy projects invest $48 million annually into Colorado’s communities ($20 million in tax payements and $28 million in land lease payments). This number is expected to grow to $142 million annually by 2030 ($64 million in tax payments and $78 million in land lease payments).

  • By 2030, Colorado plans to add nearly ten (10) GW of clean energy capacity (4.25 GW of wind, 4 GW of solar and 1.25 GW of storage) with investments nearing twelve (12) billion Dollars.
